DULUTH — Minnesota Monsters head coach Tony O’Neil took to social media on Wednesday to announce his intention to step away from the team for the upcoming season.
O’Neil, who guided the Duluth Harbor Monsters to back-to-back ArenaMania titles in The Arena League in his two seasons as head coach, cited mental health as the reason for his departure.
“I’ve helped build something special here. A winning culture. A team that plays with heart and purpose,” said O’Neil in an excerpt from his Facebook post. “I care deeply about each and every one of our players, and I believe in the foundation we’ve laid together. But because of that deep care, I know I owe it to this team—and to myself—to step away and get the help I need.”
The news comes a month after the Harbor Monsters announced their plans
