LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Heart and Hands Food Pantry has operated out of the First Baptist Church of Eaton Rapids for 21 years. Now, they are being evicted.

Phillip Bombrys is the board president for Heart and Hands food pantry and says they asked to meet with leadership at the church before the eviction was served, but the church declined.

"They don't want to meet with us they don't want to talk to us probably because they're ashamed of what they're doing," he said.

Heart and Hands purchases some of their food through a program subsidized by the USDA. In order for them to participate in this program, they have to follow certain rules, one of which says the pantry cannot engage in explicitly religious activities.
