DETROIT, Mich. (WILX) - The Michigan Attorney General has cleared a Michigan State Police trooper of any potential wrongdoing stemming from a fatal shooting in May of this year.
According to AG Dana Nessel, the Michigan State Police trooper acted in self defense.
The shooting occurred on May 16 on southbound M-10 in Detroit.
According to the AG’s office, the trooper pulled over 41-year-old Detroit man Stephen Wangara-Mason for speeding.
The two vehicles stopped at the Wyoming Avenue service road exit, where Mason admitted his vehicle was uninsured.
Mason then handed the trooper his vehicle registration, but the trooper dropped it on the ground.
The trooper then asked Mason to exit the car and retrieve the registration. Mason declined. The trooper then ordered him out of the vehicle.
