HAMPTON, Va. — The Hampton City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to revoke a use permit for Chance’s Restaurant and Lounge on Settlers Landing Road.

The move came after the city’s planning commission voted last Thursday to recommend the revocation. Police have brought up security concerns after a number of incidents there this year.

Those incidents have included at least two weapon law violations, a person with a gun at the establishment, and a homicide. Xavier Sterling, 29, died in the shooting on May 5.

Virginia ABC suspended the establishment’s liquor license in the wake of that shooting and reinstated it two weeks later. On Oct. 1, Virginia ABC revoked the license.
