COPPERAS COVE, Texas — After months of community meetings, the Copperas Cove City Council has approved a new street fee for residents and business owners in a 4-3 vote.
The fee, part of the “Let’s Fix Our Streets Initiative,” will increase monthly bills for nearly everyone in the city.
“Ultimately, they ratcheted the fees down by nearly 80% from what was originally proposed,” Public Works Director and assistant city manager Scott Osburn said. “The residential rate will be $10 per month, while most local businesses will pay between $20 and $134 per month, depending on their size.”
Some residents have suggested increasing taxes instead of adding a separate fee, but Osburn said a dedicated street fee is more cost-effective for citizens.
