A 30-year-old immigrant has narrowly survived death after being attacked by a magpie in Queensland’s outback.
Marcela Montalva, who moved to Australia from Chile in February 2025, had been living in the small and remote town of Ravenswood while completing her regional work at a local service station.
The terrifying incident happened one morning when she borrowed her boss’s bicycle to ride to the local post office about two kilometres away.
Ms Montalva had no idea what was coming when a magpie suddenly plunged at her head, forcing her to lose control and crash on the roadside.
The impact caused severe injuries to the left side of her face as she struck the concrete, knocking her unconscious for what she estimated to be around 30 minutes.
