Three people who became stranded on an island off Martha's Vineyard after jumping off their burning boat and swimming ashore Monday night were rescued Wednesday morning.

Three members of the Sullivan family were aboard the Third Wave when it departed Eel Pond near Falmouth, Massachusetts, on Friday. They were expected to return on Tuesday afternoon. A concerned family member reported that the man and his parents were overdue on Tuesday evening.

"Coast Guard received report of an overdue vessel, Third Wave, a 30-foot Chris-Craft with three persons on board, traveling from Eel Pond to Tarpaulin Cove, Naushon Island," the Coast Guard radioed, according to Broadcastify.com audio. "Mariners requested to keep a sharp lookout ... and report all sights to the Coast Guard."
