PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Two men survived a lightning strike while hiking Mount Humphreys near Flagstaff Wednesday morning, but their journey to recovery may be just beginning, according to a lightning strike survivor who knows the challenges ahead.

Danny Devine is one of the lucky ones. He was celebrating his grandson’s birthday in 2007 when a storm started brewing.

“I went outside, I walked across the driveway to the garage, and the last thing I remember is reaching up and grabbing a hold to the garage door,” said Devine.

He woke up in the hospital with no recollection of what happened.

“I didn’t know who my wife was. I didn’t know anybody,” said Devine.
