Western Sydney University has suffered a huge data breach, with a range of sensitive student information being stolen in the attack.
The cyber attack took place between June 19 and September 3 this year, the university confirmed on Thursday.
Tax file numbers, passport details, and private health and disability information was all compromised in the breach.
Sensitive data, such as names, dates of birth, ethnicity, employment and payroll details, bank account details, driver’s licence details, passport and visa information, complaint and case information, and legal information was also stolen.
“This activity occurred on the University’s Student Management System, hosted by a third-party provider on a cloud-based platform,” WSU said in a statement.
