NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - A driver was rescued from an overturned car after striking a utility pole on Tuesday night on the Hartford Turnpike.

North Haven firefighters responded to a reported vehicle accident with injuries at 9:19 a.m. near 1700 Hartford Turnpike.

The report indicated a car had rolled over and struck a utility pole.

The first fire unit arrived three minutes later and found a car on its side with the occupant suspended by their seatbelt and trapped inside.

The utility pole was broken in half and the car was holding it up over the vehicle, creating an electrical hazard for both the occupant and responders.

Fire personnel stabilized the car and used rescue tools to gain access to the occupant before removing her from the vehicle for medical care.
