A new study suggests expanding Canada Border Services Agency container clearance services to six ports in the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway – including Picton Terminals – “would create tens of millions of dollars in regional economic development opportunities.”
The study by Aviseo Conseil for Chamber of Marine Commerce (CMC) examined the potential of unlocking CBSA clearance services in Quebec, Hamilton, Valleyfield, Windsor, Goderich and Picton.
For Picton Terminals on the Bay of Quinte, study authors said such a move would add “$26.4 million in added business income.”
It would also result in “tens of thousands of trucks eliminated.”
