October is nearly over, and time is bringing us to the closest supermoon of the year, the Beaver Moon.
The supermoon is an incredible sight, and it will look around 30% brighter and up to 14% larger, according to NASA.
In December, another supermoon will make an appearance, but November's supermoon will be the closest of the year.
On Wednesday, Nov. 5, the supermoon is expected to hit its peak and will light up the night sky, and it will be 221,817 miles away from Earth at its nearest point, according to the Farmer's Almanac.
Here's what you need to know about the full moon in November.
When will November's full moon reach its peak?
The full moon will be at its peak on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 8:19 a.m. ET, according to the Farmer's Almanac.
When will be the best time to see the November supermoon?
The moon will reach its peak during the day, but it will still appear full at night for multiple days.
What is a supermoon?
Supermoons happen when a new moon or a full moon is at its closest to Earth all month, according to NASA. The phenomenon is known as "perigee."
Because of that, the moon will look 30% brighter and up to 14% larger than it usually does.
3 supermoons in 2025
November will not be the only month with a supermoon this year. One has already occurred in October, and another will happen in December.
The supermoons will fall on the following dates, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac:
- Harvest Moon- Monday, Oct. 6 at 11:47 p.m. ET.
- Beaver Moon- Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 8:19 a.m. ET
- Cold Moon- Thursday, Dec. 4, at 6:14 a.m. ET
Of the three supermoons, November's full moon will be the closest to Earth at 221,817 miles away from Earth, with December's moon coming in second at 221,965 miles and October's moon in third at 224,600 miles, according to the Almanac.
Why is it called the Beaver Moon?
In the U.S., moons are known by names associated with the folklore of Native American tribes, Colonial Americans and Europeans.
The Beaver Moon gets its name because this is the time when beavers start to take shelter in their lodges ahead of winter, according to the Farmer's Almanac. It was also the season when fur traders in North America trapped beavers for their winter pelts.
The moon is known by the following names:
- Digging or Scratching Moon
- Deer Rutting Moon
- Whitefish Moon
- Frost Moon
- Freezing Moon
