A man identified as from Mchilamwera Village, under Traditional Authority Mchilamwera in Thyolo District, has been killed by an angry mob after being suspected of stealing sweet potatoes.

According to Thyolo Police spokesperson, Rebecca Kashoti, the incident occurred on October 23, 2025, when Jackson was allegedly found in Rahim Banda’s sweet potato field, where he was suspected of attempting to steal.

Upon seeing Jackson, Banda shouted for help, prompting nearby residents to rush to the scene. They reportedly apprehended and assaulted Jackson, leading to his death.

Police officers who arrived at the scene took the body to Thyolo District Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

Jackson’s body is currently being kept at the hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
