King Charles has become the first English monarch to publicly pray with a Catholic pontiff in 500 years during an historic visit to the Vatican.

The King and Queen Camilla arrived in the holy city on Wednesday in order to meet Pope Leo XIV for the first time following his ascension to the head of the Catholic Church.

On Thursday, local time, King Charles, Queen Camilla and Pope Leo were joined by Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell, for an ecumenical service in the Sistine Chapel, marking the first time in centuries the two heads of Christianity's largest sects had prated together.
