ALABAMA (WKRG) — Former University of Alabama Quarterback and Mobile native AJ McCarron announced Thursday that he would be running for lieutenant governor.

McCarron was with the Tide for five years, winning back-to-back National Championships under Coach Nick Saban.

"With my football career behind me, Katherine and I are raising our boys here, instilling in them our deep Christian faith and teaching them the fundamental morals that make this state so special," McCarron said in his announcement video.

McCarron said, "Alabama's conservative and cultural values are under attack from every direction." He said that and Conservative activist Charlie Kirk's assassination are the main reasons he decided to run for office.
