CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - The Canyon Police Department has arrested a man charged with manslaughter in the death of a 7-year-old .

The incident happened around 12:45 p.m. on September 1 at the Palo Duro Trailer Park.

Police say a 2-year-old gained access to a firearm and shot a 7-year-old.

The 7-year-old had died by the time police arrived at the trailer park.

Police have arrested 37-year-old Jeffrey Chavez for manslaughter. He is the uncle of the child who died.

He is now in the Randall County Jail.
