PORTALES, N.M. (KAMR/KCIT) - The Portales Police Department released details on a Wednesday evening stand-off at an apartment in which one man was arrested on multiple charges of alleged child sexual assault, witness intimidation and resisting an officer.
According to the department, police responded to the 700 block of West 2nd Street at around 8:50 p.m. Wednesday after a report of a wanted person, later identified as 41-year-old Michael Ray Encinias, at an apartment. Once Encinias was determined to be inside, officers obtained a search warrant for the apartment.
Police said officers found Encinias had barricaded the apartment door, preventing officers from entering. Officers "deployed chemical munitions" into the apartment and Encinias exited shortly after, according to police, "and wa
