Thursday's bombshell arrests stemming from an FBI investigation into illegal sports betting and poker game schemes also gave the world a pretty funny gaffe.
As Joseph Nocella Jr., the Department of Justice's U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, announced the arrests that featured NBA figures like Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier, he botched the name of Toronto's NBA team.
NBA: The league's gambling problem is even worse than we thought
Rather than referring to the Raptors as an NBA team involved in the illegal betting, Nocella instead referred to the "Toronto Rangers." Obviously, that is not an NBA team. There are the Texas Rangers of the MLB and the New York Rangers of the NHL, but the Toronto Rangers are not a team anyone can bet on because they do not exist.
Of course, it's a simple slip of the tongue for Nocella, but it did give us some pretty funny jokes in the process.
GAMBLING ARRESTS: What is 'La Cosa Nostra' mentioned in sports betting investigation?
If anyone got arrested for betting on the Toronto Rangers, the charges probably won't stick.
