Two men have been jailed after police uncovered evidence that drones had made over 50 flights over six prisons, including HMP Hindley near Wigan .

And a package police said was wrapped in GRASS one of them threw out of a car window on the M6 brought down the drug smuggling plot.

Curtis Carney, 36 of Coton Way, Kirkby and Robert Stoba, 26, of no fixed abode were part of an operation to bring prohibited items into prisons using drones, police said.

Following a 10-month investigation, led by the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU), in collaboration with Lancashire Police, Merseyside Police, and His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), 11 drones and drugs with an estimated street value of £31,000 to £38,000 recovered.
