An alleged fentanyl kingpin wanted in both the United States and Mexico has been arrested in Cuba , the Mexican government confirmed.
Zhi Dong Zhang, who’s also known as “Brother Wang,” was initially captured back in Mexico City in October 2024. He was jailed there while waiting a hearing for his extradition to the United States — where a warrant has been issued for his arrest on money laundering charges — until a judge granted him house arrest, from which he escaped in early July.
At the time, Mexican Security Secretary Omar Garcia Harfuch called Zhang “ a major international money laundering operator” responsible for “establishing connections with other cartels for the transfer of fentanyl from China to Central America, South America, Europe and the United States.”
