The Porterville City Council is looking to make new adjustments to local bus routes after facing significant budgetary pressures, a move that has drawn both public scrutiny and relief from residents relying on public transit.
After facing a $1.2 million reduction in transit funding, the council was forced to consider cutting portions of bus routes around the city. Some of those bus routes were reduced earlier this year, including the route that took students to Porterville College. However, after community feedback and careful review, portions of these routes are on track to be restored, particularly in areas where ridership was previously low.
