GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Dozens of road projects in Michigan towns and villages are being funded thanks to a stop-gap program that aims to support small communities.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer awarded the grants to 39 small cities and villages on Thursday. Only cities with populations of 10,000 or less per the 2020 census were eligible.
The funding was available as part of the Community Service Infrastructure Fund (CSIF) Category B program . The program aims to support the state's smallest communities that may not have funding for road projects.
Grants range from $50,000 to $250,000 and will go toward road resurfacing, culvert replacement, pavement crack sealing and other preservative measures.
