NEWTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says the DNA test on the bear killed earlier this month is not responsible for killing a Missouri man, according to results posted by the agency.
AGFC said on Thursday that the final analysis from the Veterinary Forensic Science Laboratory at the University of Florida confirmed the DNA collected by a black bear killed in Newton County on Oct. 4 does not match the DNA of the bear responsible for the death of Max Thomas, 60, of Springfield, Mo.
Thomas' body was found on Oct. 2 at Sam's Thorne Campground in the Ozark National Forest.
The Newton County Sheriff's Office said the body was found during a welfare check at the campsite requested by Thomas' family.
