During their month-long volatile relationship, a man struck his partner in the head with an imitation handgun and attempted to ram the weapon down her throat, chipping her tooth.

He was unable to force the barrel lower in her mouth, however, because the young woman could not fully open her jaw due to injuries she sustained from a previous assault.

“I’ve been doing this for quite a long time and this is one of the most atrocious fact situations involving domestic violence that I can recall,” Judge David Thomas said in Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines.

“It was protracted, it was repeated and it was calculated quite clearly to terrorize and control (the victim) who was significantly younger than the defendant by 10 years.”
