ATKINS, Ark. – Detectives with the Arkansas State Police are investigating a deadly crash that happened after a pursuit on Interstate 40 on Wednesday.
Officials said that the incident happened around 4 p.m. when troopers saw a woman driving a blue Nissan Versa recklessly and over the speed limit on westbound I-40.
The woman, 49-year-old Andrea Thompson, was seen passing other vehicles on the shoulder of the interstate and nearly hitting two other vehicles while attempting to get away, troopers said.
ASP executed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver to end the chase near Mile Marker 92 in Pope County.
The vehicle left the road and the driver was ejected. Life-saving measures were used by emergency personnel, but Thompson was pronounced dead by the coroner at the scene.
