BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Students in Virginia Tech’s School of Construction are going beyond the classroom to help people in need in Virginia.
They’re helping Habitat for Humanity build an affordable home.
“It’s not just a learning experience. It’s not just we’re swinging hammers. It’s actually going to a good cause, people that actually need it,” said Jamey Hogg, a senior studying construction engineering at Virginia Tech.
Fellow students like Hogg volunteered to help Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg with a project they call the Prefabricated Approaches and Volunteer-based Enhancements for Virginia Non-Profit Builders, or PAVE method.
The initiative starts the affordable home-building process in a shop, rather than out on site. Students helped build the frames
