ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ/RCPS Release) - The Roanoke County School Board has named Dr. James (Jamie) Soltis the next superintendent of Roanoke County Public Schools (RCPS), according to the school division.
The change takes effect July 1, 2026. Dr. Soltis succeeds Dr. Ken Nicely, who announced his retirement in September 2025 after 33 years with RCPS.
The hiring is a promotion for Dr. Soltis, who serves as deputy superintendent for the school division. He began his RCPS career in 1999 as a science teacher at William Byrd High School.
