WACO, Texas — Former Baylor University standout VJ Edgecombe made his NBA debut on Wednesday, Oct. 22, and already earned himself a spot in the record books.
In his first-ever NBA game, Edgecombe started for the Philadelphia 76ers, putting up an impressive 34 points in the team's 117-116 win over the Boston Celtics.
Edgecombe's performance not only helped the 76ers secure the win, it also marked the highest-scoring NBA debut since Wilt Chamberlain took the court in 1959. Edgecombe's performance is the third highest-scoring rookie debut of all time in the league, according to the NBA, behind only Frank Selvy in 1954 and Chamberlain in 1959.
"I worked every day, and all my life, for moments like this," Edgecombe said after the game. "This is my dream."
