SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — An estimated 7,000 gallons of sewage spilled on the 1991 GA-25 Connector Thursday, a city spokesperson reported.

The spill occurred at 1 p.m. Thursday due to an air release valve failure according to officials.

Since the amount spilled was under 10,000 gallons, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) classifies this incident as a minor sewage spill.

City of Savannah staff has responded to the spill and the force main system was set to stop the spill, a spokesperson told WSAV.

Repairs to the valve were still ongoing at 6:30 p.m. and officials expect them to be completed by 1 p.m. Friday.
