MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- Marlboro County has implemented a new plan to free up more EMS vehicles for emergencies.

The coroner's office, along with EMS, worked out a way to make sure that in the cases of deaths, EMS transports won't have to handle those and be out of commission.

Marlboro County EMS ambulances have always been used to transport people who need help, but until recently, they also played a role in transporting the dead, says interim EMS director Christopher Polson.

"A fairly large amount of relief that we won't have to worry about that," he said. "Logistically, it's very important we're able to focus on why we're here, which is to focus on 911 calls."
