WASHINGTON — A man has been convicted of murder following a 12-day trial for a body found in the woods over a year ago.

On Wednesday, a jury convicted DeAngelo McRoy, 27, for the murder of 35-year-old Delondre Sawyer. On Feb. 8, 2024, Montgomery County Police located Sawyer's body in a wooded area along Game Preserve Road in Gaithersburg.

Sawyer had been shot in the back of the head the day before. He was sitting behind the wheel when he was shot. His body was then left in the woods.

According to police, there were three other people inside the car at the time of the shooting, including McRoy's co-defendant Quinnton Brown.

After dumping Sawyer's body, the shooters took his car. It was seen on surveillance footage at a gas station near the 700 block of Progress Way in Gaithersburg,
