OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - The Carnegie-Evans Library was awarded a national grant to make its facility more accessible to people with disabilities.

The library received a $10,000 grant through the American Library Association as part of an initiative to support small and rural libraries in the community.

“Accessing the library and some of the things that it offers you know it’s not just about reading a book, it’s about just accessing the world in general,” said director of Ragtime Industries, Lisa Crow.

Crow said she seen the limitations that people with disabilities endure in small communities.

“The barriers are anywhere between accessible building sometimes to restrooms to finding employment in the community... even sometimes finding housing that is accessible to them can be difficult,”
