A Fly-In, Fly-Out worker (FIFO) has issued a warning to anyone looking to get into the industry as he shared the bleak reality of working in mining.

The experienced tradie said he wanted to speak out to help those who had unrealistic expectations after getting an insight into the industry from "day in the life of FIFO workers" videos on social media.

Sharing a "reality check" on Reddit, the FIFO worker warned immigrants looking to move to Australia that if they don't have a trade or a relevant degree they should be prepared to be turned away.

"Do you have a trade or degree that will allow you to apply for a working visa or get sponsorship for one, through a skills assessment? If no, tough s**t, no chance Australia is letting you in," he wrote.
