About 300 people came together Wednesday night at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre for a poetry night featuring poets of all ages and backgrounds, including headliners Marcus Wicker , Marty McConnell and Tommye Blount . Hosted by Lloyd Scholars for Writing and the Arts , the event also featured poets from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor Public Schools and even members of the audience.

The auditorium lights dimmed as University students began sharing poems about girlhood, anxiety, overcoming barriers and the beauty of nature.

LSA freshman Kathryn Anderson shared a poem titled “A Tale of Two Christs.” In an interview with The Michigan Daily, Anderson said the poem highlights her experiences with religion and calls attention to hypocrisy in a creative way.
