In a move to combat retail crime and keep workers safe, the NSW government has introduced a statewide strategy to prevent violent offenders from re-entering shops.
The Police Force Retail Crime Strategy aims to tackle offences against retail workers, such as assaults, intimidation, threats of violence, repeat offending and theft.
Operation Percentile is set to be rolled out statewide by NSW Police, barring violent, repeat offenders from entering stores by issuing Place Restriction Orders after they have been convicted.
The operation has been in place since August 2024 in the Central Metropolitan Region and was so successful that it is being rolled out statewide.
Since its launch in August 2024, 1080 people have been charged with over 1395 offences, recovering stock with an estimate
