GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Friday marks 20 years since the death of civil rights leader Rosa Parks, and the Rosa Parks Quiet Courage Committee here commemorates the day annually with a special ceremony.
Following Rosa Park’s death in 2005, Reverend Milford Griner founded the Rosa Parks Quiet Courage Committee, a group that lobbied for the transfer station to be renamed in Rosa Parks’ honor in 2008, and a bronze memorial plaque to be placed in her honor.
“The committee was formed in 2006, and the main purpose was to one recognize what she did and to honor local residents who demonstrated the same kind of courage and strength that she demonstrated in her lifetime” Milford Griner, founder of the Rosa Parks Quiet Courage Committee, said.
The brief gathering will be at the Rosa Parks Station
