Tropical Storm Melissa continues to slowly move through the north-central Caribbean Friday morning, increasing the risk of multi-day weather threats.

As of 7 a.m. Friday, life-threatening weekend weather was likely for Jamaica and Haiti and the forecast is serious for the Dominican Republic and Cuba, too. Jamaica in particular could face damaging winds, heavy rain leading to flash flooding and landslides and storm surge, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

Melissa was 185 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica and producing maximum sustained winds of 45 mph as of 7 a.m. Friday. NHC forecaster Robbie Berg said Melissa was "nearly stationary," moving 1 mph east-southeast.
