**Murder Conviction in Walsall Railway Station Attack** A man has been convicted of murdering a hotel worker in a brutal attack at a railway station platform in Walsall. Deng Chol Majek, a Sudanese asylum seeker, was found guilty of killing 27-year-old Ms Whyte, who was stabbed 23 times on the evening of October 20, 2024. Ms Whyte was waiting for a train home after finishing her shift when she was assaulted around 11:15pm. She succumbed to her injuries three days later in hospital. During the trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, jurors were presented with CCTV footage showing Majek staring at Ms Whyte before deliberately bumping into her at the entrance of the Park Inn hotel, where he was staying. The footage captured him following her into Bescot Stadium station and later leaving the platform. After the attack, Majek was seen smoking and drinking with friends in a car park near the hotel. A hotel housing officer noted that Majek appeared to be "back to himself" and "seemed happier than before" during this time. Mobile phone footage shown to the court depicted him dancing with friends as he returned to his hotel room. The case has raised significant concerns regarding safety and the circumstances surrounding the incident, as the community grapples with the implications of such violence.
