Ward 12's close race for councillor between A Better Calgary's Mike Jamieson and the Calgary Party's Sarah Ferguson is getting a recount, the city says.

According to the city's unofficial results, Jamieson leads Ferguson by 29 votes.

After examining the unofficial results, a city news release says there were "sufficient rejected ballots other than those on which no vote has been cast by an elector to affect the result of the election" of Ward 12 councillor.

Under provincial legislation, Calgary's returning officer, Kate Martin, will make the recount go over all the ballots cast in the Ward 12 councillor race, from all of the ward's polling stations.

Rookies, independents will dominate Calgary city council

The recount will be held at the Big Four Roadhouse at 9 a.m. MT Thursday.
