The reported result from an Edmonton ward race flipped Wednesday after Edmonton Elections recounted ballots.

In Ward sipiwiyiniwak, the initial tally showed just six votes separating Darrell Friesen as the frontrunner from Thu Parmar. On Tuesday night, Edmonton Elections ordered a recount due to the close result.

"It felt like overtime. And now it feels like we have won in overtime. And so it's been an incredible time," Parmar said.

On Wednesday evening, the city's website posted a win for Parmar with 30.36 per cent of the votes over Friesen’s 27.5 per cent. The results showed Parmar finished ahead of Friesen by more than 600 votes.
