More than 1 million Massachusetts residents who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will lose access to their benefits next month due to the federal government shutdown, Gov. Maura Healey announced Friday.

"President Trump has chosen to stop all SNAP benefits to Americans starting next week. Leadership is a choice, and sadly, President Trump has chosen to take away food from people from all around this country," Healey said.

Of those losing benefits, 32 percent are children, 31 percent are people with disabilities and 26 percent are seniors, Healey said.
