Drenched in beer and champagne amid Toronto’s American League Championship Series triumph over Seattle earlier this week, Blue Jays manager John Schneider recalled dreaming of the moment as he was toiling for 19 years as a player and coach in the Minor Leagues.

“In pressure-packed situations, I tried to put myself in the World Series,” he told an MLB Network reporter.

But those who know the Blue Jays’ fourth-year manager best believe it started a lot earlier.

“It started right here in Lawrence,” his brother, Matt, said earlier this week from Schneider’s childhood Mercer County home, two miles from Lawrence Little League, where his father, David, served as league president.
