CASAR, N.C. — A man has been arrested in connection with intentional fires set at two churches in the Cleveland County community over the weekend.
Craig Vegh was taken into custody on Friday and charged with two counts of burning a church or religious establishment, possession of methamphetamine and destroying or altering evidence, according to the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office.
The fires were reported between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Oct. 17 at Tabernacle Baptist Church on Corinth Church Road and Calvary's Cross Baptist Church on Mt. Zion Church Road. Both buildings sustained damage in what investigators believe were arson fires.
Citizens who saw the fires early were able to extinguish them before significant damage occurred, authorities said.
