A new minor hockey season is underway in Placentia, but as young players carve up the ice at Unity Parc Arena, investigators are scrutinizing the financial records of the local minor hockey association.

The RCMP confirmed in an email to CBC News on Thursday that its officers are investigating a report from Placentia Minor Hockey of "possible financial irregularities."

A spokesperson for the RCMP said no other information can be provided because the investigation remains active.

CBC News attempted unsuccessfully to contact members of the association's executive, so it's unclear whether the association is in financial trouble because of the alleged irregularities, and how much money is involved.
