DALTON CITY, Ill. (WCIA) -- A Tuscola man is dead after the Macon County Sheriff's Office said his car hit an anhydrous ammonia tank near Dalton City Thursday evening. The tank was not compromised, and no ammonia leaked.
In a news release, Lieutenant Scott Flannery said that at approximately 7 p.m. on Oct. 23, the Sheriff's Office was alerted to an accident on 85th Street near Gosnell Road, just north of Dalton City. Upon arrival, deputies learned that a tractor was traveling southbound on 85th while towing an applicator containing anhydrous ammonia.
Flannery said the applicator of the tractor was extended and in the northbound lane when a northbound sedan hit the applicator.
