BYRON CENTER, Mich — Making a marching show is all about logistics.

Everything you see on the field represents hundreds of hours of planning, collaboration, and even engineering.

The marching band refuses to yield, and behind it, are an army of parents like Volunteer Coordinator, Beth Smith and Logistics Coordinator, Dale Wheeler.

Just two out of dozens of volunteers know a successful season means hours and hours of work, starting months before students take the field.

“[Set up] starts right away, at eight o'clock in the morning,” Beth said, reminiscing about band camp.

“Oh, my Lord, I get out of work at 2:30,” said Dale. “[I] rush straight here… three nights a week and then weekends.”
