EVANSVILLE, Ind (WEHT) - Southwest Indiana Recovery and Empowerment is launching reentry and recovery support programs at the Vanderburgh County Jail.
Officials state with an office housed inside the jail's visitation section, SWIRE's peer coaches will begin meeting with individuals while still in custody, ensuring each person will have a personalized plan and connection to resources before release.
Officials say the coaches are trained individuals with lived experience in recovery, and the organization's mission is to empower people in recovery by fostering dignity, connection and long-term support.
“At SWIRE, we know recovery is possible for everyone,” said Katherine Beyers, Executive Director. “Our peer coaches will walk alongside participants from inside the jail into the community,
