EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The Evansville nonprofit Southwest Indiana Recovery and Empowerment (SWIRE) is launching innovative reentry and recovery support programs at the Vanderburgh County Jail.
According to a press release, SWIRE is a peer-led recovery organization in Evansville.
Officials say with an office housed inside the jail’s visitation section, SWIRE’s peer coaches, trained individuals with lived experience in recovery, will begin meeting with individuals while they are still in custody, ensuring that each person has a personalized plan and connection to resources before release.
They say the organization’s mission is to empower people in recovery by fostering dignity, connection and long-term support.
