EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) -- The Southwest Indiana Recovery and Empowerment (SWIRE) Program is a non-profit organization operating inside the Vanderburgh County Jail. It provides re-entry and recovery services for inmates struggling with substance use disorders.

The SWIRE Program is a peer led organization. Its Executive Director Katherine Beyers says that means the people providing support have personal experience with recovery themselves.

"So that's that means people that have walked in the shoes of the people that we're going to be helping,” Beyers said. “So that that is one of the things that makes us unique."
