On Friday, Landry issued a state of emergency, saying he is making it a top priority to ensure people don't go hungry, especially seniors, children, and those with disabilities.

It is unclear what will happen with this emergency declaration since the government is currently shutdown.

According to a news release issued by Landry's office, benefits from previous months can still be used; however, new benefits will not be loaded onto their cards until the government reopens.
